Emus suffer another big loss

It was almost the upset of the season when at half time there was just five points separating the competition’s best team and the competition’s worst.

The bottom-placed Penrith Emus scared the living daylights out of Eastwood last Saturday afternoon trailing just 12-7 at halftime before the experience and sheer talent of club rugby’s top team kicked in to blow the Emus apart 67-14.

Emus coach Sateki Tu’ipulotu blamed refereeing errors and a lack of possession in the second half for his side’s loss.

“At halftime we were in the game and were actually getting on top but come the second half we were starved of the ball, we didn’t have much possession,” he said.

“There were also some refereeing errors that were very frustrating. I don’t get some of the calls from referees and touch judges these days.

“It’s just frustrating from a coaches point of view when Eastwood score four or five tries from forward passes.”

This Saturday the Emus return to Nepean Rugby Park to take on the sixth placed Eastern Suburbs.

“Easts have always been a tough team but we don’t worry about who we’re facing anymore,” Tu’ipulotu said.

“The boys believe they can match it with whoever they can take on.”
