The Western Sydney Wanderers have once again put on an impressive pre-season performance in the lead up to their first official A-League game on October 6.
Last Sunday night, the Wanderers, for the first time this pre-season, played out of their new home ground of Parramatta Stadium when they defeated local side Parramatta FC 1-0 in front of 1,063 fans.
Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic was impressed with his side’s victory but was even more delighted the Wanderers were continuing to get vital match practice before season’s kick-off.
“It was another 90 minutes under our belts,” he said.
“It was the first hit out for a number of guys, so that is always a good thing. We brought up a number of youth players tonight and they handled it well.
“We want the same sort of structure to be played throughout the club, so it’s great experience for these guys to have in this arena.”
During the first half the Wanderers maintained the best field position and had a number of opportunities.
However they were unable to break the defence of the Parramatta side, with scores level at nil-all at the break.
It wasn’t until the 60th minute before the game’s only goal took place courtesy of the boot of Croatian import Dino Kresinger.
The remainder of the match was played end to end with the Wanderers relieved they had added another victory to their pre-season list with just three more trial games remaining before the season opener.
