St Dominic’s College student, Cameron Weir, has shown Australian selectors what he is made of after scoring a total of 242 runs at the School Sport Australia Cricket Championships held in Hobart earlier this month.
Weir was selected to represent as an all-rounder in the NSW All Schools side, and after a stellar performance, has been selected in the Australian All Schools side to play in a tournament to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October this year.
He was instrumental for the NSW side at the carnival and scored a top knock of 87 runs in the final to lead the team to victory.
“I have had a really good season playing fourth grade for Penrith Cricket and with the St Dominic’s side, but playing in Hobart was very exciting,” Weir said. “And being selected in the Australian side is really exciting – it is the first time I will get to play cricket overseas.”
The carnival was played in a one-day format with five matches against various states.
As he anxiously awaits his trip, Weir said he will be watching his two favourite international cricketers for inspiration – Shane Watson and Michael Hussey.
