Kevin Kingston may have played his final game for the Penrith Panthers.
It was revealed today that the 31-year-old suffered a knee injury during Monday night’s clash with Melbourne at Sportingbet Stadium.
Kingston had been recalled to the first grade side after James Segeyaro flew to Papua New Guinea following the death of his father late last week.
Kingston was due to front a routine media session this morning but was instead locked in talks with Penrith coach Ivan Cleary about his immediate future.
“Panthers can today confirm club Captain Kevin Kingston suffered a knee injury during Monday night’s game against the Storm,” a Panthers spokesperson said.
“Initial scans show a fracture to his lateral tibial plateau. He will have further scans today to determine the severity, and how long he will be sidelined.
“There will be no further comment from Panthers or Kevin on this issue until we get the results of those scans.”
Kingston, who has played nearly 200 first grade matches, was due to retire at the end of the season.
Segeyaro was expected to be back in the number nine jersey for this weekend’s clash with Manly, but that situation remains unclear.
Meanwhile, forward Jeremy Latimore will front the NRL judiciary tonight in an attempt to get a dangerous contact charge downgraded. He faces two matches out if he is unsuccessful.
