They may have only had one victory all season but the Penrith Phantoms are still hopeful of clinching a playoffs berth.
Last Sunday the Phantoms went down in a tight encounter to the Canterbury Bucs 5 – 3, but according to their inspirational captain, the result could’ve very easily went the other way.
“The amount of chances we had to score was just ridiculous, I myself had three breakaways that I just couldn’t convert to goals,” captain George Kozumplik said.
“Their goalie had a blinder and a great game. He saved a couple of ones where you shake your head at basically.”
It was always going to be a tough season for the Phantoms with many new and inexperienced players entering the side. Despite a run of close defeats, Kozumplik said the side has come a long way since game one.
“We’re starting to work out the best system for our team, ice hockey can be quite strategic,” he said.
“That win we had against the top team in Liverpool was a turning point and since then we’ve had some close games. We haven’t been outplayed of late, I think it’s just a matter of time before things start clicking.”
This weekend the Phantoms play their second double-header of the season, meeting the Canterbury Eagles at Penrith Ice Palace on Saturday followed by the Liverpool Saints away on Sunday.
