Westfield Penrith has re-opened after parts of the centre were closed this morning due to a major police operation.

Police were notified of a suspicious package in the centre at around 9am this morning.

Parts of Westfield were evacuated with some shops, including Hoyts Cinemas, not permitted to open for morning trade.

Specialist officers were called in to inspect the item, which was later declared safe.

The centre is now operating as normal.
