A teenage girl has tragically died after being hit by a car at Colyton earlier today.
The accident happened on the Great Western Highway just after 2pm.
Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, and treated the 14-year-old girl for head injuries.
The girl was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead but despite efforts from paramedics, she died on the way to the hospital.
“Police were told that a White Nissan Pulsar, driven by a 43-year-old woman, collided with the teen near Bennett Street,” a police spokesperson said.
“The driver of the Nissan has been taken to hospital for mandatory testing.”
Witnesses to the aftermath of the incident described a harrowing scene.
“God bless the people who had stopped to help this person. They were performing CPR when we drove past. Horrific scene to see,” one witness said on Facebook.
All eastbound lanes were closed on the Great Western Highway with traffic being diverted down Sydney Street.
A crime scene has been established and inquiries continue into the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
