Patients of a Cambridge Park GP are being notified that vaccinations they received may be less effective due to insufficient storage practices at the clinic.
Patients vaccinated since 1996 by Dr S T Singham at 104 Oxford Street, Cambridge Park, are encouraged to return to the practice, or another GP, to be revaccinated.
The issue was identified following a statewide audit of GP vaccine storage practices and the introduction of new training requirements.
“NSW Health does not have responsibility for GPs. However, it has been working with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Australian Medical Association, the Medical Council of NSW, and the Primary Health Networks to remind GPs of their obligations for vaccine storage under national guidelines,” NSW Health said in a statement.
Dr Singham is required to contact previous patients, as he was unable to provide evidence that vaccines were consistently stored at the correct temperature.
Storing vaccines correctly ensures they remain potent and effective when they are given to patients.
Vaccines covered by the National Immunisation Program will be available for revaccination at no cost, however, some general practitioners may charge consultation fees.
