Another security guard has been attacked at Nepean Hospital, sparking calls for NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to intervene in a dispute over workplace safety.

Radio 2GB’s Ray Hadley revealed this morning that the guard was attacked last night after a man presented at the Mental Health Unit.

The man allegedly verbally abused a guard who was assigned to watch over him before punching him in the face and kicking him in the legs.

The guard suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the emergency department for urgent medical treatment.

Health Services Union Secretary Gerard Hayes has told 2GB the Premier needs to get involved immediately.

“This is becoming hospital lotto. We are seeing now, every month, 40 people are being assaulted in hospitals,” he said.

“Everybody’s got a right to have a safe workplace and patients and visitors have an absolute right to go to a hospital to be healed, not become patients themselves.”
