Penrith’s Wrap with Love Knit-In group celebrated their 10 year anniversary of knitting and crocheting wraps for local and international communities in need at Penrith City Library yesterday.

Wrap with Love’s wraps are donated to local shelters and sent overseas to help ward off hypothermia and provide comfort for those in need. In the last 12 months, the organisation knitted and distributed over 26,000 wraps to local and international communities.

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler said Penrith City Council was proud to celebrate the decade long commitment of the group.

“Wrap with Love is a great organisation that does a lot for those in need both in our local community and overseas,” Cr Fowler said.

“The men and women who volunteer their time to sew, knit and crochet and distribute these wraps are vital members of our community. We’re proud to host this group in our Library every month.”

Knitting and crochet lovers were invited to sew, knit and crochet squares or wraps for donation to the group, while non-knitters are encouraged to donate a ball of wool to the group to knit into a square or wrap.

Penrith City Library accepts these donations on the group’s behalf all year-round.

Wrap with Love was founded in 1992 and is a non-profit charitable organisation made up of volunteers. Their aim is to distribute wraps through local community groups, aid agencies and charities to those needing warmth.
