A man is in a critical condition following a brawl at Penrith early this morning.

Just before 1.30am today, police were called to the car park of a fast food outlet on Mulgoa Road, Penrith, after reports of a brawl.

Officers attended and located an unresponsive 32-year-old man suffering a head injury.

“Police have been told the man was injured during a fight in the car park with a group of men who fled the scene before officers arrived,” a Police spokesperson said.

“The injured man was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

“A second man was also found in the carpark with minor facial injuries and taken to hospital.”

Detectives from Nepean Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

In an unrelated incident, a male sergeant was allegedly assaulted by two men while in the vicinity of the crime scene.

The sergeant suffered facial lacerations and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

The pair, believed to be aged in their 20s, were arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where they are assisting with inquiries.
