Retail giant Costco Wholesale has chosen to call NSW home, with plans to build its first Australian warehouse distribution headquarters in western Sydney, estimated to create up to 1000 jobs.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the NSW Government had given Costco the green light for its $77 million project in Kemps Creek, near the site of the future Western Sydney Airport, in what will be the company’s largest facility in Australia.

“This is another big win for NSW jobs,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“The new 14 hectare facility is expected to create 730 construction jobs and 210 operational jobs.

“The location of these jobs is also strategically important for our State, with Costco’s new facility only a stone’s throw away from the future Western Sydney Airport site in Badgerys Creek.

“Costco is the latest major employer to be setting up shop near the future airport site, helping form what will be an Aerotropolis – a fully integrated economic precinct that will deliver jobs and opportunities for the people of Western Sydney and across NSW.

“This new employment hub will also provide people living in Western Sydney the chance to work locally so they can spend less time commuting and more time with their families.”

Minister for Planning Anthony Roberts said Costco’s headquarters promises to deliver a dedicated jobs region around Western Sydney Airport.

“It will bring new jobs closer to the homes of about two million residents living in Sydney’s West,” Mr Roberts said.

“This is an important development and is a win for the people of Western Sydney.”

Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies welcomed the Costco approval and the development of the Oakdale South Industrial Estate saying it would create great opportunities for the people of the area.

“Costco Wholesale’s national distribution centre will be a boon for Western Sydney and we look forward to having good jobs for people close to where they live,” Ms Davies said.

Costco Managing Director Patrick Noone said his company was looking forward to making further economic contributions, especially for the people of Western Sydney.

“As we expand our business, we require a larger facility to serve the needs of our members here in Australia,” Mr Noone said.

“This location is ideal for housing our depot and providing hundreds of jobs in Sydney’s booming west.”

Costco’s Kemps Creek headquarter is expected to be completed within 18 months
