Seniors and pensioners at Penrith Station were greeted by the much-loved Ita Buttrose on Monday morning, to remind them to purchase their Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card.

Ms Buttrose has one message for local seniors who are still using their pre-purchased Pensioners Excursion paper tickets.

“If Penrith commuters want to continue travelling for no more than $2.50 every day wherever they go, it’s essential they get a Gold Opal card,” she said.

“It’s so much easier to travel, it’s very convenient, you can just tap on and tap off.”

Ms Buttrose said she knows people are sometimes reluctant to change, but this is a change for the better.

“Opal is easy to use but I know some older people may be hesitant to change from paper tickets – I want to let them know that Opal really is very simple.

“Once they’ve got their Gold Opal card I think they’ll realise how convenient it is.”

Seniors and pensioners can apply online at opal.com.au, speak to a customer service officer on 13 67 25 (13OPAL), or visit the Service NSW Centre at 333 High Street to obtain an Opal card.
