Children from St Joseph’s Primary School were treated to an animated talk this week from award-winning children’s author Aaron Blabey.
Before Mr Blabey took to the stage the children had a present for him – a video of them reading his books and explaining why they liked them, something Mr Blabey said was really special.
“It’s great to come out to the schools to talk to the students face-to-face but to have a presentation like that, well that’s really special,” he said.
“I love doing the talks and reading my books to the students because they are so honest and you get an immediate response from them.”
Students from Year 6 also put on a drama performance for the school of Mr Blabey’s book Noah Dreamy.
Mr Blabey did animated readings of several of his books, some not published yet, including the students’ favourites Pig the Pug and Stanley Paste.
A year after his first book was published, Mr Blabey became an award-winning author after Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley won Children’s Book of the Year.
“I found myself with a new job after that and I love it because I’m able to just go into my studio and create stuff that becomes something,” he said.
“I try to put something of worth into my books to benefit the children but, most importantly, I aim to make them fun.
“I love when children are happy to pick up a book and read it – it’s a really great thing.”
Mr Blabey also showed students how he creates his various characters.
