Man loses finger in dog attack

Police are investigating after a dog bit off part of a man’s finger in St Clair today.

The incident occurred about 5.45pm in Bode Place, St Clair.

Police have been told a man entered a neighbour’s yard, where was set upon by a dog described as a male, brown Staffordshire terrier.

During the incident, the dog bit off one of the man’s fingers at the second knuckle.

The finger has been recovered, and the man is receiving treatment for his injury at Westmead Hospital.

Police from St Marys Local Area Command attended the address. The animal also attacked these officers, who tried to subdue it with OC spray.

The dog ran from the yard, but was later captured by council rangers in a nearby street.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
