A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being hit by a train in bizarre circumstances at Kingswood this morning.

A CareFlight helicopter was called to Kingswood by the Ambulance Service just after 10.40am today, where the 65-year-old woman had been hit by a train while she was on the platform at Kingswood Station.

The helicopter landed at 10.50am in a park 100 metres for the station.

The CareFlight Doctor and duty paramedic ran the 100 metres to join with Ambulance NSW Paramedics and Police to treat the injured woman who had lacerations to her head and body, possible fractures and was unconscious.

The CareFlight crew were told that the woman was hit while on the platform and did not fall under the train.

After stabilisation, the woman transferred to the CareFlight Helicopter in an ambulance. She was then as flown to Westmead Hospital under the care of the CareFlight Doctor, in a serious but stable condition, for further treatment.
