Legendary former Australian Netball captain Anne Sargeant is bringing her famous netball clinics to Penrith this July.

Run by Sargeant and a team of experienced and knowledgeable coaches, the clinics are designed to bring junior netballers of all abilities in closer contact with their heroes, at the same time developing their skills, confidence and enjoyment of netball.

“The clinics are not the kind where you come along and balls get chucked in the air,” Sargeant declared.

“It is a coaching and teaching environment that really focuses on working the kids’ skills. There’s lots of fun along the way but it definitely gives kids an opportunity to look at correct footwork and ball handling techniques as well as to have a look at their position and the technical things that go with being a shooter or defender.”

Participants in the Anne Sargeant Netball Clinics are placed into age-based groups where they are coached by experienced coaches including current and former representative players.

“We make sure we have exciting, elite players with a teaching background to work with the girls,” Sargeant said.

“Most importantly they’re people I know who are energetic and coach well and not just people who have a profile.”

Sargeant has been running her clinics successfully for more than two decades and enjoys a great relationship with Penrith District Netball Association.

“We’re proud to have the endorsement of Penrith Netball and the feedback we’ve received has been tremendous,” Sargeant said.

“Most people are very appreciative of how well it’s organised, how thoughtfully it’s done and how much they learn – the kids have a ball.”

Sargeant represented Australian Netball from 1978 to 1988 and is regarded as one of the greatest ambassadors for the sport. She also commentates on a regular basis.

The Netball Hall of Fame inductee said she enjoys going back to the grassroots developing the future of netball in Australia.

“Getting down to that level with kids starting out really keeps you in touch with what it’s all about,” Sargeant said.

“We want them to love it and we want them to believe they can be a Diamond one day.”

Anne Sargeant Netball Clinics are on at Penrith Netball courts on Tuesday, July 2 and Wednesday, July 3. To register visit http://www.annesargeant.com.au. Places are strictly limited.
