Penrith residents will get to indulge in a sensational night of music when the Sydney Symphony Orchestra comes to town.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra will work its magic at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, April 6 at an event not to be missed, also featuring acclaimed classical pianist Kathryn Selby.

As Australia’s leading orchestra, the Sydney Symphony has become a cultural icon of our nation and performs around 150 concerts per year, wowing a combined annual audience of over 350,000 people.

This special concert will mix drama and nostalgia, with the powerful sounds of a Mozart piano concerto and the stunning, decadent music from the Vienna of Gustav Klimt.

The program will feature the ravishing music of Franz Schreker’s Chamber Symphony alongside Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 27 in B flat, K595 and other magical works.

A whimsical, nostalgic atmosphere is created with the Chamber Symphony by Franz Schreker who was renowned as the ultimate Romantic at the dawn of the modern era.

Like Mozart, Schreker had a tendency towards the theatrical and his work demonstrates finely tuned craftsmanship.

Using only 24 players, he shapes a world of sound full of rich opulence and ravishing harmonies that reflect his 19th century background but also drifts into a realm of shadows and nostalgia.

Bringing together this special performance is multi-award winning pianist Kathryn Selby who has performed with the world’s leading orchestras.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra will play alongside Kathryn Selby at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, April 6 at 7pm.
