They may be training six days a week, morning and afternoon, but even the most disciplined teenage athletes can find the time for a Macca’s break.
Nepean Rowing Club’s brightest young prospects had time to break from a development camp on Tuesday to enjoy a free lunch courtesy of new-found local rowing supporters, McDonald’s North Penrith.
The recently opened store have jumped on board with the local rowing club ahead of the upcoming Rowing World Cup to be held at the International Regatta Centre in March.
“It’s an honour to support a sport that encourages local kids to get involved and I hope the local community is getting excited about rowing ahead of the International Rowing Regatta,” said McDonald’s North Penrith Licensee, Frank Meduri.
Even though the local athletes at Tuesday’s luncheon aren’t competing in March’s ‘World Rowing Down Under’ they are all still heavily involved in strict training schedules ahead of the upcoming State and National Championships in February and March, respectively so are grateful for the support.
“With the World Cup coming to Australia there is a huge spike in rowing. Our squad is growing quickly and everyone is really excited,” Neil Holmes, Captain of the Nepean Rowing Club said.
“Hopefully some of the young athletes coming through the ranks… will be taking part in future International Rowing Regattas,” Mr Meduri added.
