The Greater Western Sydney Giants will be boosted with an injection of new blood for season 2013 with six new, young players selected at last week’s AFL Draft.

The Giants selected midfielder Lachie Whitfield from the Dandenong Stingrays/Mount Martha as their number one pick, followed by mid-fielder Jonathan O’Rourke at number two, and defender Lachie Plowman at number three.

They also drafted 18-year-old defender Kristian Jaksch at number 12, defender Aidan Corr at number 14, and James Stewart with selection number 27.

Giants National Recruitment and List Manager, Stephen Silvagni, said he was delighted with the players the club had selected.

“We always said we wanted to select the best available talent and with six of the first 27 selections, including the first three picks, we believe we have done just that,” he said.

“We have recruited an excellent mix of midfielders, forwards and defenders and together with our existing talent it makes for a very exciting future for the Giants.”

The new recruits will begin training with the club in the coming weeks.
