Penrith is beaming with pride today after Jessica Fox claimed a silver medal at the London Olympic Games.
It’s a remarkable achievement for the 18-year-old local, who was not expected to medal at this Games.
Fox, a journalism student, qualified eighth fastest for the final of the women’s K1, and produced a brilliant run in the final.
She had a nervous wait after her run, with seven competitors still to race in an attempt to beat her time.
One after another, competitors were slower than Fox – and she dared to dream.
Fox was embraced by her parents after the remarkable win, and was beaming with pride and confidence, both during and after her run.
