Green light for dump

The Land and Environment Court has today approved amended plans for the controversial Industrial Recycling and Waste Facility at Patons Lane, Orchard Hills.

The four-year battle over the former Erskine Park Quarry site cumulated in an appeal in the Land and Environment Court after the Minister for Planning rejected a proposal by Dellara for a waste management facility and continued shale extraction on September 27, 2010.

The Orchard Hills community broke record after record in their opposition to the dump – the Land and Environment Court received 11,500 submissions in late 2011 against the proposal, which is the highest in the State’s history.

But Commissioner Annelise Tuor and Assistant Commissioner David Johnson have approved an amended version of the planned dump, which will be subject to a list of conditions.

Earlier this month, Dellara went into voluntary administration, leaving residents unsure of the future of their suburb.
