A young woman was tackled to the ground and indecently assaulted in a frightening incident at St Marys.

And police say a silver coloured four-wheel-drive holds the key to their investigation into the incident.

The 20-year-old woman was walking through a reserve at the intersection of King and Stapleton Streets in St Marys at about 8.40pm last Saturday when a man approached her and asked her for the time.

“The woman told the man the time, and he then tackled her to the ground and indecently assaulted her,” police said in a statement.

“The man then ran to a silver coloured four-wheel-drive which was parked on King Street. No registration number was obtained.

“The woman was uninjured and reported the incident to St Marys Police.”

The man has been described as having a tanned complexion, about 165cm tall, of a chubby build, with a shaved head.

At the time he was wearing a white t-shirt with a red design and shorts.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who was in the area at the time should contact St Marys Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
