Penrith and St Marys Police have launched their own Facebook pages this week as part of the NSW Police Force’s Eyewatch program.

“Eyewatch is about empowering residents with the ability to participate in crime prevention activities to ensure community safety,” said Crime Manager at St Marys, Darryl Jobson.

“Project Eyewatch will give community members the opportunity to participate in active crime prevention activities online in their own homes – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

The Facebook page will be used to communicate various stories and messages where police are seeking assistance from the public, but also matters of general interest.

“For those persons that remember Neighbour Watch, Eyewatch is the same concept but it involves online meetings. Essentially, this is about bringing Neighbour Watch into the 21st century,” Mr Jobson said.

Facebook will also facilitate community meetings.
