Man slashed police car's tyres

A man is under police guard in hospital following an alleged pursuit yesterday.

 

About 4pm on Saturday, police attended a home on Mamre Road, St Marys, to speak to the occupants about a number of recent incidents.

 

It is alleged that while speaking to a woman, officers saw a man slash the tyres of the police vehicle parked in the street before fleeing on a motorcycle.

 

The officers, from St Marys Local Area Command, immediately attempted to stop the man however were unsuccessful.

 

A short time later police saw the man allegedly attempting to break into a car on O’Connell Street at Werrington.

 

Again attempts to stop the man were unsuccessful and a pursuit was activated, before the motorcycle crashed in nearby O’Farrell Street.

 

A 29-year-old St Marys man was arrested before being taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment.

 

He sustained neck and sternum injuries and remains under police guard in hospital.

 

Police expect charges to be laid.
