Three young children were found in the back of a car that was being chased by police yesterday afternoon.
Just before 5pm yesterday, officers from Penrith Local Area Command were alerted to an alleged theft at a clothing store on Allen Place, Penrith.
It’s alleged a woman stole a number of items of clothing before leaving the area in a white Holden Commodore which was being driven by a man.
After initial attempts to stop the car failed, a pursuit was initiated; however it was terminated a short time later for safety reasons.
The car then stopped and the male driver ran and was pursued by officers on foot. When officers approached the car they found three young children in the back seat.
The 36-year-old man was arrested after being located by a police dog.
He was taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with exceed speed by over 45km/h; drive recklessly – speed manner dangerous (Skye’s Law); and mid-range PCA.
He was bailed to appear before Fairfield Local Court on October 24. Police continue to investigate the theft.
