There were emotional scenes at Centrebet Stadium this afternoon, with fans saying a teary goodbye to club legend Luke Lewis.
Lewis, who missed out on playing in today’s final home game of the season for Penrith following a cancer scare, spent more than an hour saying goodbye to fans during a lap of honour following the club’s 36-22 win over Gold Coast.
Lewis shook hands with supporters and posed for photos, adhering to every request and thanking fans for their loyalty over the last decade.
Lewis will join the Sharks next season.
The 2003 premiership winner was joined by Travis Burns, Michael Gordon and ground announcer Scott McRae in a farewell lap of honour.
“15 years is a long time in anyone’s life and the Panthers have been a big, big part of my life,” McRae said in address to fans prior to the match.
“It’s been a great 15 years and who knows what is around the corner as far as footy goes.”
