Two more COVID deaths at Nepean Hospital; alert for Emu Plains optometrist

Two more COVID-infected patients have died at Nepean Hospital, as 67 new cases of the virus are reported in the Penrith Local Government Area (LGA).

NSW Health has confirmed that a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s both passed away at the hospital.

In addition, a man in his 60s from within the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District passed away at home.

NSW reported a 1,220 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 to 8pm last night.

67 were reported in Penrith, including 21 from the 2760 postcode that covers St Marys, Colyton and Oxley Park.

Meanwhile, the Weekender has learned of an emerging outbreak at an optometrist in Emu Plains.

It’s understood up to four cases have been linked to the George Lafrenais Optometrist in Emerald Street, Emu Plains. A number of close contacts have been contacted.

The business is currently closed and anyone who attended between Monday, August 30 and Wednesday, September 1 is urged to get a COVID-19 test.
