Evacuation orders for parts of the Penrith region remain in place, with SES crews not convinced they’re out of the woods yet despite the Nepean River’s peak continuing to fall.

The height of the river was sitting at 7.77 metres a short time ago, bringing it back from a peak of 10.03 metres yesterday evening.

Water is visibly receding, bringing much relief to concerned residents.

However, more rain is forecast today and tomorrow – keeping emergency crews on high alert.

“Further heavy rainfall has been observed across the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley during Sunday,” an SES spokesperson said.

“Further heavy rainfall is forecast during Monday and Tuesday. This rainfall may cause further rises.”

People subject to evacuation orders in the western part of Jamisontown, the western part of Penrith and the northern end of Mulgoa Creek are urged to stay away from their homes for now. Evacuation centres have been set up at Castle Hill RSL.

For any information about current evacuations, a Public Information and Inquiry Centre has been set up and can be contacted on 1800 227 228.

Traffic continues to be impacted across the Penrith region with localised flooding causing the closure of a number of roads.

Many outdoor events will be cancelled this week, while several schools in the area are non-operational today.

Penrith OzTag has confirmed this week’s Semi Finals, due to be played at The Kingsway, have been cancelled.
