The Western Sydney Aerotropolis will be formally known as Bradfield, with the new city to honour John Bradfield’s game-changing impact on Sydney.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed the name of what will become Sydney’s third city centre during a visit to western Sydney this morning.
Bradfield spans some 100 hectares and sits north of Bringelly. The name was chosen through a ‘Name the Place’ community initiative.
A number of major companies have already committed to housing new facilities at Bradfield, which is set to house some 50,000 jobs.
The new city will sit adjacent to Western Sydney Airport, which is due to open in 2026.
John Bradfield was an Australian engineer, best known as the chief proponent of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. He died in 1943.
