Harness racing called off after Coronavirus scare at Penrith meeting

Harness Racing NSW has suspended all racing after a person who attended last Thursday’s meeting at Penrith was confirmed to be in direct contact with a person who has tested positive to COVID-19.

The race meeting was conducted behind closed doors but it is understood the individual was an industry participant.

The individual came in contact with a person who disembarked from a Sydney to Sydney cruise last Thursday. Nobody disembarked at any other ports and the cruise was cleared to disembark passengers in Sydney.

The participant who attended the Paceway was not under any self-isolation guidelines or told not to attend.

The Paceway and Harness Racing NSW have implemented significant measures to ensure the safety of those participating in race meetings.

All people who were in direct contact with the participant have been identified.

The participant has been tested for COVID-19 and is waiting results.

Harness Racing NSW has advised anyone who went to the Penrith meeting last Thursday to closely monitor their health and seek immediate medical attention should they develop flu like symptoms.

As it stands, all race meetings have been suspended.
