One of Penrith’s most popular and coolest small business’ is up for sale.
Penrith Slot Car and Hobby Centre, located in Jamisontown, is on the market with long-time owner Ken Walker deciding to hang up his trigger and retire.

Walker started the business in Altair Place in March 2013, but after six years of watching slot cars go around and around millions of times, he’s ready to pass on the torch to the next enthusiast.

“I’m heading into the next stage of my life but I’m a bit fussy who I sell it to,” 60-year-old Walker told the Weekender.

“I want someone that’s hobby orientated but they can’t treat it like a hobby, they’ve got to treat it like a business.

“It’s the sort of business you can run on your own, it’s not that hard. I just need a break.”

The former toy shop owner and mechanic by trade decided to open the centre because his children loved slot cars, however there was nowhere locally for them to live out their passion for racing.

After plenty of research and visiting other centres up and down the east coast, Walker finally had enough knowledge to go out and start his very own slot car business.

The Penrith Slot Car and Hobby Centre’s prime focus is providing fun and entertainment for all ages. It’s home to five slot car tracks plus the fastest drag strip in NSW.

The centre also runs competitions, holds plenty of parties for kids and adults, and has its own hobby shop.

Walker is hoping the next person to take the reigns will enjoy the business as much as he has.

“I play with toy cars for a living, how much better can it get?” he asked.

“I don’t care who buys the business as long as they are keen to make it bigger and better.”

Walker is hoping to sell the business in the next few months so he and his wife can travel.
