Police are investigating following a two-vehicle crash in South Penrith this morning.

About 8.30am this morning, a Holden sedan was stopped on The Northern Road and two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were at the front of the vehicle attempting to repair it.

A child remained in the back seat of the vehicle and was restrained.

At this time, a van with two male occupants, believed to be aged in their 20s, travelling along the same road struck the back of the Holden, causing it to move forward and hit the man and woman.

The males in the van were not injured. Emergency services were called and the male at the front of the sedan was treated at the scene, before being taken to hospital suffering serious injuries.

The female at the front of the Holden and the restrained child suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospital.

No one else was injured during the crash and officers attached to Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

A short time ago, The Northern Road remained closed southbound, with minor delays. Traffic was being diverted via Jamison Road.
