Nepean Hospital will take part in a 12-month trial of body worn cameras for security staff.
Nepean will be among nine hospitals across the state taking part in the trial.
“The trial is a good first step for Nepean Hospital staff,” said State Penrith MP, Karen McKeown.
“Community and staff safety is a top priority.”
The trial aims to test whether body worn cameras are an effective tool for security staff to help prevent and manage violent situations, as well as potentially collect vision that could be used as evidence in prosecutions.
The trial comes following the Anderson Review of Hospital Security, which suggested a range of measures be implemented.
“The body worn camera trial is one of several actions NSW Health has taken to address the recommendations of the Anderson report and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continuing to improve security practices to keep staff and patients safe,” said Health Minister Ryan Park.
