Elderly man dies after being hit by car

An elderly man has died following a fatal pedestrian collision in Penrith.

About 7pm last night, emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway near Castlereagh Road following reports of a pedestrian hit by a car.

On arrival, officers from Penrith Local Area Command found a man, believed to be aged in his 80s, seriously injured on the road.

“The pedestrian was taken by Ambulance Paramedics to Nepean Hospital in a critical condition, where he died a short time later,” a police spokesperson said.

“The female driver was uninjured. She was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.”

A crime scene was established and police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
