Kingswood Park Public School has received a vibrant makeover thanks to volunteers and the The Smith Family Kingswood.
Volunteers from all over Sydney dedicated four hours of their time last Saturday, February 22, to decorate the school with fresh paint and new landscaping as part of the Optus RockCorps movement.
Optus RockCorps, is a global youth movement that rewards volunteers who give up four hours of their time with a ticket to see an exclusive, live concert with some of the world’s biggest musical acts.
Rodney Williams Program Coordinator for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Program in Cranebrook, said Kingswood Park Public School was a much brighter place on Monday morning.
“The Optus RockCorps crew has assisted to transform Kingswood Park Public School, giving the walls a fresh coat of paint and overhauling the gardens for a thorough spruce up,” he said.
“The School continues to be a light, fun space, with new beautiful green gardens, making it a much more welcoming environment for the kids and the community to enjoy. Thank you, Optus Rockcorps for your support and the volunteers for their time. It is greatly appreciated.”
The volunteers will be rewarded with an exclusive concert on Wednesday, March 12 at Luna Park, featuring Aussie sweetheart and pop icon Samantha Jade, with alternative electro pioneers Empire of the Sun and chart topping English electronic music quartet Rudimental also set to perform.
“Music connects so many people so it only feels natural to use it as an opportunity to encourage young people to come together and volunteer in their local communities,” Samantha Jade said.
