Veteran Penrith City Councillor Kevin Crameri has warned that local residents “will no longer be able to hang washing on the line” if Badgerys Creek airport is given the green light.
As the debate over a second airport for Sydney rages on, Cr Crameri has written by Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss to express his ongoing concern.
The letter, obtained by The Western Weekender, raises a number of concerns including water supply, pollution and noise issues.
“The previous studies show that we have long periods of still air in summer when the pollution of Sydney ebbs back and forth,” Cr Crameri said.
“We do not have sea breezes to get rid of it and are constantly reminded on the media of high pollution days and to stay inside. This will increase dramatically with trucks buses and planes servicing the 24 hr Airport.”

I have served 25 years on Penrith Council as an independent Councillor and have lived here for the last 62 years and have a good understanding of the area and its weather patterns.
I am concerned about the proposed Badgerys Creek Airport in the Sydney Basin and implore you to consider a few critical points
The area surrounding the Penrith area and the Airport is rural and with no water supply. They rely rainwater and have spent large amounts on water storage tanks which will now be rendered useless by the pollution of avegas and soot. The will have to modify their systems and buy water ,will they be compensated.

In winter we have days when the fog does not lift until 10 or 11am and comes in at 9 or 10 at night making the airport fog bound this will become even worse with the pollution mixed with the fog.
People from Blacktown Erskine Park St Marys Penrith and Glenmore Park will now be affected by the noise and air pollution and will no longer be able to hang washing on the line.
In August September when we get our winds coming over the mountains they cause down droughts and turbulences even Sydney had to divert a plane to Newcastle and return planes to Melbourne 2 weeks ago . I refer you to the article in the Sunday Telegraph 1/12/13 RE Stall fear for planes. Planes taking off to the west will have to bank because of the mountains.
If planes are quieter now and a million people from Blacktown to Penrith have to put up with the noise 24 hours a day why not Sydney, who will have the quiet planes. I am sure we will get the older planes and the freight planes at BCA.
With the closure of Shell refinery and the impending closure of Caltex refinery the JUHI line which delivers the fuel to the airport would not be able to handle reverse flow to BCA hence fuel will need to be trucked or a new fuel line installed and will this be put through peoples properties.
If planes have a problem they dump fuel out over the ocean. What will happen here, will it be over national parks or Warragamba Dam or our farm land?
Gosford is intending to put in an airport this could be serviced by a fast train in about 20 minutes
If you are talking about jobs please remember Bhopal they had jobs but thousands were killed from the pollution.
