NSW Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Barry O’Farrell today announced Penrith MP Stuart Ayres had been appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Western Sydney.
“Stuart is a strong and passionate advocate for Western Sydney so it makes sense to give him greater responsibility in the growth and renewal of the region,” Mr O’Farrell said.
“I’ve been impressed with Stuart’s hard work and passion since he was elected to Parliament in 2010, and I’m keen to make the most of his skills,” he said.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals understand the importance of Western Sydney to the economic success of the State –that’s why I appointed myself Minister for the region.
“He will work closely with me to ensure we continue building for the future for Western Sydney.
“Stuart is just as committed as me to improving the quality of life for Western Sydney residents and he’s got a track record of delivering – whether it’s the building of the Erskine Park Link Road, starting WestConnex or opening the new 650-space Nepean Hospital car park.”
In August, Mr Ayres was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads. He will no longer serve in this role, and has been replaced by Hawkesbury MP Ray Williams.
He had only served in the Transport and Roads role for a little over two months.
Mr Ayres said he was thrilled with the opportunity to take on a greater role advocating for the region he lives in.
“I live and breathe Western Sydney. It is a region with boundless opportunities and after years of neglect by Labor some very serious challenges,” Mr Ayres said.
“I’m honoured to be appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Western Sydney and look forward to working with the Premier on continuing to improve rail, roads, hospitals and schools in the region, as well as growing job opportunities for young people,” he said.
