An alleged gun threat on social media sent Cambridge Park High School into lockdown this morning
Police from St Marys Local Area Command are conducting an operation at the school currently, with the help of the Dog Squad.
Local police and security guards are currently manning the front gates of the Harrow Street school, not letting anyone inside without a security escort and identification by the principal.
Parents who arrived at the school to remove their kids from class, told the Weekender the gun threat began at approximately 8pm last night on the Facebook application Ask.fm.
It’s understood the gun threat later turned into a bomb threat.
Parents questioned why students were even allowed to go to school at all today considering the threat was made last night.
One student, who was pulled out of class this morning by her parents, said she felt safe inside with the high police presence.
A parent on the Weekender’s Facebook page said her daughter was in the school and “scared sh*tless”.
Another parent commented saying his son was in the school and that the school was taking all precautions and that it was “school as usual for kids”.
It’s understood security could still be at the school until tomorrow, the last day of term.
Police nor school representatives on the scene were authorised to speak about what had occurred however Police Media issued a statement this morning saying that: “Police do not believe staff and students are at risk, but the school will remain in lock-out today as a precautionary measure”.
