Sussan Ley has been handed the enormous task of rebuilding the Liberal Party following its crushing election defeat.
At 63, Ley becomes the first woman to lead the Liberal Party.
She defeated Angus Taylor in a leadership ballot this morning, 29 votes to 24.
Ted O’Brien has been elected Deputy Leader.
Ley takes on the role of Opposition Leader following Labor’s crushing election win earlier this month, which saw Peter Dutton lose his seat.
Ley emerged from the Liberal party room a short time ago, confirming she will hold a media conference later today.
