A woman is dead following a stabbing at Kingswood this afternoon.

A man known to her has since been arrested.

The incident happened at around 1.40pm this afternoon at a home on the Great Western Highway.

Police found the woman, believed to be aged in her 20s, with two stab wounds to her chest.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the woman, but she was unable to be saved.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner,” a Police spokesperson said.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

A 22-year-old man was seen running from the area.

Police have established a crime scene and several lanes of the Great Western Highway were closed westbound near Bringelly Road, but have since reopened.

About 7pm tonight, police arrested a 22-year-old man at a residence on Derby Street in Penrith. He is being questioned by police.

His arrest occurred without incident.

Local resident Brock Blackborrow said it was a terrible incident.

“I’m just a bit shell-shocked,” he told the Weekender.

“We had just come back from playing a few games of pool and saw a bunch of cops, ambulances and CareFlight.”

This afternoon, people believed to be family and friends of the woman are outside of the unit and can be seen hugging each other and crying.
