A man has suffered more than half a dozen stab wounds in an incident at Werrington apartment block this morning.

The man, who is not a resident of the Victoria Street apartment complex, was found in a stair well at around 4am.

The 29-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

He was suffering up to nine stab wounds to his upper body.

Nepean Duty Officer Natalie Gilbody said police were presented with a “graphic” and “confronting” scene.

“He was located in the stairwell. He was conscious and breathing at the time and communicating with police,” she said.

“At this stage we don’t know why he was at the location and we haven’t been able to find out a motivation for the stabbing.”

Police remain on the scene collecting evidence.

“We will be speaking to neighbours in due course,” Detective Inspector Gilbody said.

“We have spoken to occupants of a unit where we’ve located blood nearby and we’ve established a crime scene there.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
