About 11.10pm on Wednesday, May 18, police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a beauty salon on Stafford Street, Penrith.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command secured a crime scene which was forensically examined.

Police were told that as a 39-year-old female staff member was preparing to close the premises for the evening, she was approached by a man on the street who threatened her with a large meat cleaver.

The man stole an amount of cash and the woman’s mobile phone before running south along Colless Street and turning east into Rosedale Avenue.

No injuries were sustained to the woman.

As inquiries into the incident continue detectives have released images of man who they would like to speak with.
