Unmarked police vehicle involved in fatal bus crash

The car involved in this morning’s fatal bus crash at Llandilo was an unmarked NSW Police vehicle.

A critical incident has been declared following the fatal crash at the intersection of Third and Fifth Avenues at around 7.20am.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW.

The male bus driver was declared deceased at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The officer – a male sergeant attached to a specialist command – suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment. He will also undergo mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and is being examined by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.

Local traffic diversions are in place at Third, Fifth, and Sixth avenues and Terrybrook Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

A Critical Incident Investigation Team from Blacktown Police Area Command will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the crash.

That investigation will be subject to independent review and all information will be provided to the Coroner.
