The AFL clash between the GWS Giants and Port Adelaide scheduled to be played in Queensland tomorrow has been postponed.
11 Local Government Areas in Queensland were thrown into a snap lockdown today after seven new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 were revealed.
Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said an immediate lockdown was the best way to proceed.
“We have seen from the experience in other states that the only way to beat the Delta strain is to move quickly, to be fast and to be strong,” he said.
“This will be the strictest lockdown that we have had.”
The AFL has immediately postponed all three Queensland-scheduled games this weekend including tomorrow night’s match between the Giants and Port Adelaide, scheduled for Metricon Stadium.
The GWS Giants will immediately shift to Victoria while the AFL considers how to reschedule the matches.
