Man charged over fatal Leonay crash

A man has been charged over the tragic death of a woman at Leonay yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to River Road, Leonay about 4.30pm on Tuesday, after reports a woman had been hit by a car.

On arrival officers found a 63-year-old woman on the roadway deceased.

Police will allege the vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road before it mounted the curb and hit the pedestrian.

The 25-year-old male driver of a silver Kia Rio was spoken to by police before being taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory tests.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene, and the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, the man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station, where he was charged with ‘dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous’, ‘negligent driving (occasioning death)’, ‘not keep left of dividing line’, and ‘possession of prohibited drugs’.

He was refused bail to appear before Penrith Local Court today.
