A major police investigation has been launched after a man was shot in Penrith this afternoon.

About 3.20pm, emergency services were called to Barber Avenue in Penrith following reports that shots had been fired.

A man aged in his early 30s was found with gunshot wounds and treated by paramedics, before being airlifted to Westmead Hospital.

It is understood the victim is Jae Tregear, who also survived an assassination attempt by gunmen at his home at Caddens in April.

A crime scene has been established and Barber Avenue remains closed to vehicles as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have not confirmed any arrests.

Local resident Kiesha Goolagong said it was a scary situation.

“I just went up to see if my Aunty was okay, that’s where the shooting has happened and I just saw blood on the floor that the police were taking photos of,” she told the Weekender.
