Police have laid 19 additional charges against a Corrective Services NSW officer over the alleged sexual abuse of inmates at a correctional facility.
In October 2018, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Corrective Services Investigation Unit commenced an investigation under Strike Force Nautilus, following reports female inmates had been sexually and indecently assaulted on numerous occasions.
A 63-year-old man was charged by detectives in February 2019 with 18 offences.
Following further investigations, the man was charged with an additional 19 charges at Penrith Local Court today.
The total of 37 charges include ‘aggravated sexual assault victim under authority of offender’ (x8), ‘aggravated indecent assault’ (x14), ‘aggravated incite act of indecency’ (x4), ‘misconduct in public office’ (x8), ‘intimidation’ (x2) and ‘introducing contraband to correctional centre’.
Police will allege in court the man sexually abused a further six female inmates at a correctional facility in Berkshire Park on numerous occasions between 2016 and 2018.
The man’s employment with Corrective Services NSW has since been suspended.
Investigations are continuing.
