Penrith halfback Nathan Cleary will miss State of Origin III in Sydney but will be back for the Panthers within a month.

The Panthers confirmed this morning that Cleary has been diagnosed with a high grade lateral ankle injury and is currently dealing with a large amount of swelling.

Fortunately the scans showed the syndesmosis in Cleary’s right ankle remains intact.

Cleary sat out the second 40 minutes of Sunday night’s Origin clash in Perth after suffering the ankle injury in the first half.

21-year-old Cleary is likely to be replaced by Jarome Luai in the Penrith team to play the Warriors on Sunday. He’s also likely to miss upcoming matches against the Titans and Dragons.
