A four-year-old boy from Cranebrook has been tragically killed in an accident on the Hawkesbury River.

Emergency services were called to a boat ramp on River Road at Lower Portland about 10.45am today after a vehicle and boat went into the river.

The four-year-old boy was inside the vehicle.

It’s understood the boy’s father and grandfather desperately tried to rescue the boy but their attempts were to no avail.

“Officers from Hawkesbury Local Area Command, PolAir and police divers conducted an extensive search of the river,” a Police spokesperson said.

This afternoon, the boy’s body was located by emergency services.

It is understood the car and boat was found a short time later.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
